Chemical Name: LEUPROLIDE (loo-PROE-lide) Common uses: This medicine is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist used to treat endometriosis or prostate cancer. It is also used to treat central precocious puberty (CPP). Before using: INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Directions: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMES WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed by the prescription label. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, discuss with your doctor what to do. Cautions: DO NOT MISS ANY DOSES of this medicine. Missing doses will decrease the effectiveness of this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE worsening of your symptoms during the first few weeks of treatment. If this occurs, contact your doctor. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. You may still become pregnant even though your monthly period stops. Birth control pills may not prevent pregnancy. Use an alternate form of birth control. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine. Possible side effects: IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR TREATMENT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS: SIDE EFFECTS include hot flashes or sweating; headaches; mood changes; decreased desire for sex; acne; muscle pain or weakness; nausea or vomiting; or changes in breast size. If they are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience dizziness; continued vaginal bleeding; swelling of the ankles or hands; joint pain; or weight gain or loss. IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR TREATMENT OF CANCER: SIDE EFFECTS include hot flashes; nausea or vomiting; constipation; sleep disorders; or breast tenderness or pain. If they are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience bone pain; swelling of legs or feet; dizziness or lightheadedness; headache; urinary frequency or urgency; or blood in urine. IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR TREATMENT OF CENTRAL PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY (CPP): SIDE EFFECTS include vaginal bleeding or discharge, acne, or skin rash. If they are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience any reaction at the injection site. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If you take too much: IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Additional information: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
